Born in 1940 in Kobe, Japan. Graduated from Tama Art University. Kawaguchi began his creation since 1960s and is one of the most established contemporary artists representing Japan. Kawaguchi’s artworks reveal the relations between something visible and invisible. By enclosing the seeds within lead, wrapping torus of lotus in bee-wax, or frottaging fossils, his artworks stimulate imaginations and evoke various consciousness (such as awareness of time and space, aesthetic sense and views on life and death) of the audience. Kawaguchi is an emeritus professor at University of Tsukuba and works as a professor at Kanazawa College of Art since 2014.
