Born in 1971 in Algeria. Currently based Paris, France. Abdessemed’s artworks, often use video as a medium have been presented internationally-acclaimed art festivals and institutions including MoMA PS1 (New York, USA), Venice Biennale (Italy), The São Paulo Art Biennial (Brazil), and Pompidou Centre (France). Abdessemed’s artworks give rise to a public controversy such as his bronze sculpture, “headbhutt (Coup de tête) ” revealed in 2012 at Pompidou Centre that featured the incident of Zinedine Zidane headbutted Marco Materazzi at 2006 FIFA World Cup final. Other renown artworks include “Real time” (2003), and “Décor” (2011-2012). Major projects and exhibitions include Yokohama Triennale 2001 (2001, Japan), The 50th, 52nd, & 56th Venice Biennale (2003, 2007, 2015, Italy), The 27th São Paulo Art Biennial (2006, Brazil), and solo exhibition, “Practice Zero Tolerance” (2006, La Criée, centre d'art contemporain Rennes and Fonds régional d'art contemporain d'Île-de-France-Le Plateau centre d'art contemporain, Paris, France) and “Adel Abdessemed: Dead or Alive”
